Cambridge University Centrex

The Cambridge University Telephone Network and ntl:Telewest Business' public exchange in the city are now linked via high speed digital circuits.

This allows Cambridge University to extend its telecommunications network to locations where its existing infrastructure wasn't previously available. ntl:Telewest Business has used a part of its public exchange to augment the University infrastructure PABX. Extensions off our public exchange are called Centrex lines. These lines provide a near seamless link to the University voice network and provide a high level of feature transparency. In conjunction with the University of Cambridge Telecommunications Office, we've defined three types of service called CU1, CU2 and CU2S.

Is this service available to me?

CU1 and CU2S are available to University Institutions and Colleges. CU2 is available to bona fide members and staff, both current and retired, of the University and its Colleges and is subject to network availability. Please note this service is not available to undergraduates of the University.

Further information on Cambridge University Centrex is available in the PDFs below, along with an application form for the CU2 service. More information on our Telephony Solutions is available from the ntl:Telewest Business website.
